چکیده

The concept of environmental sustainability aims to achieve economic development while achieving a sustainable environment. inverted U-shape relationship between growth and quality, also called Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC), describes the correlation carbon emissions. This study assesses role agriculture energy-related variables evaluating EKC threshold in 54 African economies, income groups, according World Bank categorization, including low income, lower-middle, upper-middle, high-income Africa. With 1990–2015 panel data, results are estimated using cointegration, Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS), granger causality tests. are: (1) validated hypothesis low-income, lower-, upper-middle-income economies. However, there is no evidence full panels. Furthermore, turning points group meagerly low, showing that Africa could be on at lower levels. (2) with CO2 found positive economy. has mitigation effect emissions lower-middle-income low-income sample. Also, renewable energy negatively correlated In contrast, non-renewable exerts all groups except

The Environmental Kuznets Curve, environmental protection policy and income distribution

The effect of economic growth on pollution emissions differs substantially among high-income countries. I address this issue by analyzing public environmental policy decisions. Individual heterogeneity, relative income effect and the political framework in which policy decisions are taken determine the emergence of the downward sloping segment of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). Income in...

The Environmental Kuznets Curve:

1. Introduction The environmental Kuznets curve is a hypothesized relationship between various indicators of environmental degradation and income per capita. In the early stages of economic growth degradation and pollution increase, but beyond some level of income per capita (which will vary for different indicators) the trend reverses, so that at high-income levels economic growth leads to env...

Environmental Kuznets Curve

cointegration Classical regression analysis assumes that the error term in a regression is normally and independently distributed. An extreme violation of this condition is when the error term is a random walk. Such a regression is termed a spurious regression and the results are not reliable. It usually indicates that a required variable with random walk behavior has been omitted from the mode...

Confronting the Environmental Kuznets Curve

T he environmental Kuznets curve posits an inverted-U relationship between pollution and economic development. Kuznets’s name was apparently attached to the curve by Grossman and Krueger (1993), who noted its resemblance to Kuznets’s inverted-U relationship between income inequality and development. In the first stage of industrialization, pollution in the environmental Kuznets curve world grow...

Reexamining the Empirical Evidence for an Environmental Kuznets Curve

This paper uses an updated and revised panel data set on ambient air pollution in cities worldwide to examine the robustness of the evidence for the existence of an inverted-U-shaped relationship between national income and pollution. We test the sensitivity of the pollution-income relationship to functional forms, to additional covariates, and to changes in the nations, cities, and years sampl...
